Birla Mandir
Jaipur is home to the spectacular Birla Mandir, a Hindu temple part of the many Birla Mandir Temples spread across the country. The temple is also popularly known as the Laxmi Narayan Temple and is placed at the base of the Moti Dungari Hill. It was built by a wealthy business tycoon in 1988 using pure white marble with its domes representing different ways of the same religion. The temple is dedicated to Hindu deities Vishnu and Lakshmi. Dilwara Temples
Built during the 11th and 13th centuries by the ministers of the Solanki rulers, the Dilwara Temples are famous for their architectural beauty. Together, there are a total of about 5 temples and each is unique in its own way. They have been dedicated to different people such as Mahavir Swami, Adinath, Nemi Nathji, Rishabhdev and Parshwanath. Nestled comfortably among forested hills, their most beautiful aspect has to be the splendidly designed gateway and entrances. While it’s true that you will find many Jain Temples in Rajasthan, the Dilwara Temples remain one of the top attractions owing to their architectural superiority.
Brahma Temple
Also popularly known as Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, this is located in Pushkar and is reportedly one of the few temples which are dedicated to the Hindu deity Brahma. The temple is close to about 2000 years old and houses the images of Lord Brahma and his wife Gayatri. It was constructed using slabs of marble and stone, and local belief is that it was built by Vishwamitra who was a sage after Brahma’s Yagna. Since it is situated in close proximity to the Pushkar Lake, the Brahma Temple is even more visit-worthy when arriving on cheap business class flights.
Eklingji Temple
Situated in Kailashpuri about 22km away from Udaipur, Eklingji Temple is a Shiva Temple and one of the most popular ones in the region. The temple is so famous that in fact, even the town has come to be known as Eklingji. The story is that Eklingji Nath was the king of Mewar in Rajasthan once upon a time, and since then, they have been the family deity of the Mewars. The temple architecture is stunning to behold with exquisite carvings which are unique from the other temples around. The temple houses a 50-foot tall statue of Shiva with four different faces that depict his four different forms. There is also a silver image of Shiva’s bull Nandi at the temple.
